Ashiatsu barefoot massage services

My deepest massage, an adaptation of a variety of ancient massage treatment, is called Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy. Essentially, it's a massage performed smoothly with the feet as overhead parallel wooden bars provide balance as I work. This session can be modified for light pressure to very deep--in fact, I have massaged clients weighing under 100 pounds to over 375 lbs. Anyone who likes a good deep tissue massage will want to try this unique treatment.

I no longer do traditional deep tissue work with my hands because Ashiatsu is such a great way to alleviate discomfort of tight muscles in large muscle groups. Unlike some other forms of barefoot massage, this technique is done with the client on the massage table, and massage cream is used.

People with certain health conditions shouldn't receive Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy. Some of these are: pregnancy (or trying to conceive), osteoporosis, broken/fractured bones and people on blood thinning medications (including high doses of asprin). If you have these conditions or any other health issues, please discuss them with me prior to booking your session.

Laura P says: This was the first massage I have ever had where the masseuse used their feet. It was amazing. The deep pressure was constant and never let up, whereas that level of continual strong pressure is just not possible with hands, which tire more easily. Mary-Claire has an excellent understanding of the body and knows right where to massage to induce deep relaxation. I slept so much better the night of my massage!

Bamboo massage

Looking for a warm and deeply relaxing massage? Try the fabulous Bamboo-Fusion massage. Warmed bamboo tools sweep over muscles, deeply kneading them to loosen up the tight spots.

Try something new! It feels great, and you'll be amazed at the deep state of relaxation warm bamboo massage offers clients. (If you have any health conditions or medications that prevent you from receiving a heated massage, please let me know in advance).

stephanie c says:
Mary-Claire is incredible! As soon as I walked in, she made me feel right at home and was relaxed very quickly with the ambiance. I received the Bamboo massage and it was so nice and smooth on my body with just the right combination of the bamboo and the heat of the tools. I immediately booked after the session and counting down the days until it gets here!
Ashi-Thai

Want to experience a new type of massage? Ashi-Thai is a variation of traditional Thai massage. Unlike a Swedish massage, no cream or oil is used, and the client remains clothed in loose, comfortable pants and shirt. A variety of stretches will elongate and relieve tightness in commonly used muscle groups.

In traditional Thai massage, the client typically lies on a floor mat with his or her head to the side. Ashi-Thai has been designed so that the client lies comfortably on a massage table, and the therapist uses overhead bars for balance and support. The stretches are done using my legs and feet (instead of hands and thumbs). This type of barefoot massage can be used as a treatment as itself or as a complement to an Ashiatsu or other massage session. The client should bring loose fitting, comfortable pants (like jogging pants) and a long sleeved T-shirt.

My hands-on massage is for those who like a light to medium touch. Trigger points may be worked deeply if needed.  I incorporate a variety of techniques best suited for your needs.

If you've recently been injured, it's wise to see a chiropractor, medical doctor or osteopath prior to receiving a massage. Massage therapists need to typically wait about 72 hours after the injury before working on a client. Having worked in a chiropractor's office for a number of years, I have vast experience working on specific muscle issues.

Craig W says: Better than perfect! Wow. I am a 50 yr old man who have had massages from Bali to Fiji to the Four Seasons Hotel. Never have I experienced the ultimate massage like Mary-Claire. She put me mentally and spiritually on a different planet. You won't be disappointed.

Prenatal massage: Expecting a new addition to the family? I am certified in Nurturing the Mother pregnancy massage and love to work with pregnant women. As a mother of 8, I have plenty of experience both receiving and giving pregnancy massage.

2nd and 3rd trimester massages are typically done in a side-lying position, which is reported to be best for mom and baby. In certain instances, I will massage moms-to-be face down while properly supported by special pillows. I am happy to work on Mom during the 1st trimester as well. Treat Mom with a gift certificate for massage. She'll love your thoughtfulness!

Perfect Bliss!
Melissa M. says: Two weeks before and three months after my baby was born. . . Mary-Claire saved my sanity and neck muscles. The most wonderful massage experiences I have ever received.

Chair massage is a fabulous way to introduce friends or clients to massage! Companies often provide chair massage to destress their employees on a weekly basis. It's also a great way to have a party--invite some friends over for girls' night out, sporting parties, wine tasting, weddings, etc. We come to you. Affinity Massage Studio can provide several therapists at a time to come to your location. Each client typically receives a 15 minute massage through clothing, and we can modify our massages to your needs! Minimum of 2 hours.

OFFICE RATES:

  • $42 per 30 minutes
  • $72 per 60 minutes
  • $85 per 75 minutes
  • $97 per 90 minutes
  • $125 per 120 minutes

Each client deserves whatever massage technique works best for their body, so I charge only by the session time instead of by the modality. Sometimes a variety of methods works nicely, so I encorporate different techniques, whether it be Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, Trigger Point, Swedish, Myofascial, Bamboo-Fusion, etc.

CHAIR MASSAGE RATES:

  • $80 per hour, minimum 2 hours.   We can provide several massage therapists for groups.
  • Rates apply to each therapist. Travel fees may apply if we go a significant distance from the office (located in Mt. Healthy).

*A note about  massage therapy rates:

Why is massage so expensive? If you're not self employed, it's hard to understand why someone can appear to earn such a high hourly rate. Here are some reasons for the price for many massage therapists:

~If we don't work, we don't get paid. There's no such thing as a paid vacation, sick day or holiday.
~Being self employed, there are no 401K plans, dental, vision or health insurance included.
~Rent, utilities, phone, website, internet access, online booking, gift certificates, business cards and brochures are regular expenses that come out of our wages.
~Any responsible LMT will have liability insurance, which costs several hundred dollars per year.
~Continuing education is required--many professional memberships or licensing boards require 48 hours every 4 years, most of which is very pricey. (Not to mention that we often have travel expenses included).
~Licensing fees are paid to licensing boards, typically every 2 years.
~Any advertising done is paid out of pocket by the massage therapist.

One would hope that experience and training would figure into the rate-setting process, but in my experience it is more market forces that drive pricing. One would expect that a newly licensed massage therapist should charge less than one who has had years of experience and many additional hours of continuing education. However, consumers get it in their head that a massage costs $XX in their town, and so anyone, regardless of their ability, training, and experience can charge that much.

I have been a massage therapist since January 15, 1999, have had many hours of continuing education and thousands of hours with clients. Untold number of hours have been spent training to become an authorized instructor for Ashiatsu and Bamboo-fusion. However, as a budget conscious mother of 8, I charge what I consider to be a fair rate. If you are in pain and are in dire need of a therapeutic massage but cannot afford it, please consider asking about a sliding scale
